Respite care: a well-earned break for family carers
Looking after someone you love is rewarding, but it can also be tiring. Regular breaks help family carers stay well and keep caring for longer. Our respite care service means a trained Farrell Healthcare carer steps in so you can rest, see friends, attend your own appointments or go on holiday.
Respite can be a few hours each week, a regular day, or more intensive support for a week or two while you are away. We get to know your loved one and their routine beforehand, so the change is as smooth as possible.
Convalescent care: recovering in the comfort of home
After an operation, illness or hospital stay, most people recover best at home. Convalescent care gives you short-term support while you get back on your feet, with help around the house, personal care, meals and medication.
Our nurse-led team has experience in rehabilitation, early supported discharge and falls prevention. We can work alongside your GP, district nurses and therapists, encouraging you to regain your strength and confidence and reducing the risk of going back into hospital.
If you are coming out of hospital, our hospital to home service can also arrange an escort home and make sure everything is ready for your return.
Flexible, short-term and easy to arrange
Respite and convalescent care starts with a free nurse assessment, just like our long-term care. There is no minimum term, and if you decide you would like to continue with ongoing support, we can simply carry on with the same familiar carers.

Frequently asked questions
How long can respite care last?
As long as you need it. It might be a few hours a week, a single day, or round-the-clock support for a couple of weeks while you go on holiday. There is no minimum term.
Can respite care be arranged at short notice?
Please call us on 01253 759613. We will always try to help, and we will arrange a free nurse assessment as quickly as we can.
What is the difference between respite and convalescent care?
Respite care gives a family carer a break. Convalescent care helps the person themselves recover after illness, surgery or a hospital stay. Both are short-term and both take place at home.
